I was recently invited to an early preview of Alexa+, which is the updated version of Alexa that now uses LLM-style AI (there is that word again) to make it more conversational and much like ChatGPT, Grok, and all the others. Hmmm…
First, I’m somewhat of an Alexa fan. When the first Echo came out on November 6, 2014, I was one of the very early users after my friend Jon Staenberg told me about it and said I should request one. I got on the waitlist and received one a few days later. When it arrived, I just couldn’t stop talking about it. By 2016, it seemed like Alexa was in just about everything at CES. Siri? Crickets! Hey Google tried to catch up, but never did. They were promoting the hell out of Hey Google at CES, but it mostly flopped.
