I’m writing this from Oshkosh, Wisconsin, my hometown. I’m here to see family and take in the biggest air show in the world. Roughly 10,000 airplanes showed up this year alone, along with an estimated 650,000 people. It’s hard to imagine the scale, and it’s a very long walk from one end to the other, about five miles. Most don’t walk it. They take the tram, which is nothing but John Deere tractors pulling passenger wagons.
The photo above doesn’t show the spectator lots anywhere near as full as they were during the week. Much of the green you see north of the freeway was packed with spectator cars on the days we were there.
