One often-asked question on Quora is how I remain current with tech events around the world. For starters, I do a lot of headline skimming, and to do that, I use my favorite dashboard: Netvibes, a French company and a division of Dassault Systems.
I can’t stand news that’s filtered and sanitized, so I look for multiple sources of the same story. Often, I’m scanning through hundreds of stories to pick what I think might be interesting. Yes, some have a left or right bias, but I’m looking for data points.
I have a lot of friends who only watch one or two news sites and are completely unaware of major events around the world. They are especially behind on technology.
Here is a screenshot of my Netvibes Home Screen.
I don’t want pictures; I just want headlines I can scan in a hurry. It’s how I want to see all news.
I created this dashboard, and you can customize your own to fit your interests. It’s actually very long, covering a lot of feed sources. I occasionally swap out positions and add or subtract news feeds depending on what’s interesting at the time.
We’re living in a different world where the once trusted media is not trustworthy anymore, and even citizen journalists don’t always have it right, so it takes the aggregation of a lot of content to get the information right.
Still, this very inexpensive site (I think it’s free now) does a very good job of condensing sources from around the world.
One last thing- on a personal note. This was written the day after the Trump verdict. I’m beyond pissed, but I’m not going to let this site become political so you will have to find my comments somewhere else. This will get to you weeks after the verdict and believe me I’m far from okay. That’s all I’m going to say on the subject.
