In the mid-1980s, I found occasional studio work doing commercials in downtown Seattle. One of my friends from college worked at the studio, and I'd get a call when they needed a drummer at Steve Lawson Productions studios, which was once Kaye-Smith (Danny Kaye). Lots of hits came out of that place, from Heart, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, Steve Miller, etc. It later became Bad Animals studio and is now X Studios.
The studio had just received their new Kurzweil K250, and it was about a $10,000 machine at the time. With options, it was closer to $13,000, as I recall. I can't remember what it all needed, but in 1985, that was a lot of money! That would be about $33,000 in today's dollars. It was a big deal, fun to play with, and we all marveled at it.
