The Border- Where is it?
No, not that border.
Some of you have written to me saying I don’t write enough about life around Moose Lodge and the Ozarks where I now live. You’re right. I couldn’t think of a good topic until now.
Living in the Pacific Northwest insulates you from a lot of Midwestern traditions and the broader culture and history of the United States. West of the Cascades is its own unique world. From about San Francisco north, the culture feels about the same. Few people in the Seattle area go back generations the way they do in the Midwest. Most are one- or two-generation transplants who came for the hot tech job market. You rarely hear a southern accent or, for that matter, much of any regional accent at all.
